NPC Records 1,469 Births In Bauchi LGA
The National Population
Commission (NPC) in Bauchi Local Government Area (LGA) yesterday said 1,469 births were registered across the nine centres of the local council in June.
Malam Sani Yunusa, the Bauchi NPC Comptroller, told newsmen in Bauchi that this figure was a great improvement on past figures.
Yunusa attributed the increased figures of births registered to the intensive public enlightenment on the significance of birth registration, saying it was a positive change.
He said that the National Population Commission (NPC) had collaborated with health facilities to ensure children were registered at birth and the partnership had yielded huge success. According to him, in the recent past, the above figure is mostly recorded for the whole year.
“We registered about 1, 469 children for the month of June which is almost what we registered for a whole year in the recent past.
“We registered 759 male children and 710 females, as such there is great change due to increase in the level of public sensitisation and enlightenment.
“People are gradually becoming aware of the importance of birth registration. One cannot study abroad without NPC birth certificate, so lots of people are coming in to register their children,’’ the comptroller said.
He called on parents to ensure that they registered the birth of their children, adding that other children who were not of adult age could be registered too.
Yunusa said that registration of births were ongoing at the health centres in the local councils and would be a priority during the maternal, neo-natal, child health week coming up soon.
