Group Condemns Calls For Removal of NDDC MD
The Progressive Forum of Nigeria, a socio-political organisation in Rivers State has described the calls by certain individuals in the society for the sack of the Niger Delta Development Commission’s Managing Director, Mr. Chibuzor Uguduoha as a campaign of calumny.
The group noted that those calling for the sack of the NDDC MD, are former beneficiaries of the double standards and sharp practices that were operational in the commission before the constitution of the new board.
In a statement signed by the President of the body, Hon. Fubara Emmanuel and the, Secretary Hon. Gospel Ibimoh, the body described Mr. Ugwuoha as a patriotic Niger Deltan who is poised to reverse the ugly trend of the past by ensuring the installation of due process in the award and payment for contracts awarded.
The group called on the people of Niger Delta to dissociate themselves from the calls for Ugwuoha’s sack which they observed was a calculated blackmail to distract the NDDC MD from performing his duties and bringing development to the deprived Niger Delta region.
The group also noted in retrospect that the expected pace of human capital and infrastructural development in the Niger Delta was elusive despite the long existence of the interventionist agencies.
But they expressed optimism that the NDDC under Ugwuoha as MD has taken a decisive step to ensure that there was optimal benefit among the various communities in the region.
Part of the most remarkable achievements of the NDDC in the present dispensation, according to the group, were the embarkation of sustainable development programmes in human capacity development such as the training of youths in various specialized programmes within and outside Nigeria.
Also, as a matter of policy, they noted that the new NDDC had embarked on mega projects across the region, billed to enhance the living standards of the people.
The group further pledged their unalloyed support to the NDDC MD, and called on the people of Niger Delta to throw their weight behind him to succeed.
The body also congratulated President, Goodluck Jonathan, over his latest elevation as Nigeria’s president and prayed for the reposed of the soul of the late President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who passed on recently.
