Computer Society Wants IT Experts On Boards
The Nigeria Computer
Society(NCS) has urged the various governments to appoint Information Technology (IT) experts into various boards of their parastatals and agencies to fast track the IT revolution in the country.
Prof. David Adewunmi, NCS President, made the appeal during a news briefing in Lagos on the forthcoming 12th International Conference of the society.
‘’We are advocating that government should comply with the CPN Act (4a) in the appointment of IT experts into various boards,’’ he said.
He said the society was also advocating the usage of Nigerian professionals in major and strategic national IT projects and initiatives instead of importing people, products and solutions.
The NCS president said that the conference would serve as a forum for setting the digital agenda for the development of actionable initiatives for the advancement of IT profession and industry.
He listed issues that would be focused in the conference as; smart city and broadband penetration, innovation and leadership in IT, cashless society and e-payment systems.
Others are, critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP), cloud computing and big data, IT Human Capital Development (Mentorship), Software Technologies and local content issues.
Adewunmi urged policy makers in the public and private sectors, IT practitioners and academia to register with the society so as to be abreast with technology trends within the context of Millennium Development Goals.
He said that NCS had achieved a cashless society, outsourcing and local content with their past conferences and urged the public to be involved with this year’s conference to achieve the digital revolution.
He expressed the NCS commitment to advancing the interest of its esteemed members, IT industry and profession and the nation as a whole.
He said that the conference, titled, ‘’Information Technology for Inclusive Development’’, would take place in Akure between July 22 and July 24.
