Agency Set To Review Operations In FCT
The FCT Directorate of
Road Traffic Services (DRTS), says it will review the operations of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Joint Task-Force on traffic to make it effective.
Mr Danjuma Garba, the Director of the service, disclosed this in Abuja last Sunday. While speaking with journalists on the activities of the DRTS.
He said that the review became necessary because of the recent protest by taxi drivers in the FCT due to allegations of extortions and high-handedness made against the task-force.
He recalled that drivers of painted taxis in the FCT embarked on a protest against what they described as high-handedness by the FCTA/Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) joint task-force.
Garba said that the DRTS had met with the union leaders with a view to proffering a lasting solution to the problem.
He also stressed the need for the unions to advise their members to adhere to traffic rules or risk further arrests by the VIO officials.
Garba explained that the FCTA set up the task-force to ensure adherence to traffic rules and regulations in FCT.
He assured the public that the DRTS would continue to work with relevant stakeholders, including the taxi unions, to ensure law and order on FCT roads.
He said that the FCTA/VIO task-force comprises officials of the VIO and other security agencies with a mandate to ensure law and order on FCT roads.
