GE Begins Subsea Wellheads Fabrication
The President and Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) of General Electric Nigeria, Dr Lazarus Angbazo, has said that the company has commenced the fabrication of subsea wellheads at Onne, Rivers State.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Angbazo said, “With this development, surface wellhead systems used in drilling for oil and gas on land and offshore will now be done in our oil and gas facility in Onne, Rivers state.
“Nigerian engineers have also been trained within and outside the country to operate these facilities,’’ the statement said.
It noted that the development was in tandem with the federal government’s local content law, the clamour for capacity building, skill acquisition and technology transfer.
“This milestone represents a lot more than complying with the laws on local content.
“This is not about ticking the box on local content compliance but about localising our supply capacity, training and human capital development.
“This is the one move that makes sense to our sustainable business policy and to support our huge investments in the country,’’ the statement said.
It said that the company was seeking to increase the competitiveness of local operators in the oil and gas sector.
