RVHA Orders Cancellation Of RSUST Post-UME Exercise
The Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Education has ordered the authorities of Rivers State University of Science and technology (RSUST), Nkpolu, Port Harcourt to cancel the computerised post University Matriculation Examination (UME) conducted recently.
A member of the committee, Hon. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja (Opobo/Nkoro) in a text message, said that the committee after an intensive meeting with the RSUST management took the decision and directed that a fresh examination be conducted within two or three weeks.
“The House had cancelled the contentious computerised exercise and ordered the university to conduct a manual one in two or three weeks time”, he said.
The lawmaker who sponsored the motion on the issue last week condemned the entire process of the conduct of the examination, saying that the committee held a closed door meeting with the school authorities, Monday.
He disclosed that during the meeting both parties agreed to shelve the computer based exercise for the time being, pending when a workable computer option would be introduced as a means of the conduct of future examination.
It would be recalled that the state lawmakers following a motion by Hon. Tamunosisi Gogo-JaJa discussed possible effect on students of the state origin gaining admission into the institution through the computer-based examination.
The Tide gathered that the RSUST authorities took the computer approach in order to minimise cheating at examinations and introduce innovation in line with modern educational practices in the developed countries.
