We Are Committed To Peace, Security In Delta- Okowa
Governor Ifeanyi
Okowa of Delta State has stressed that the state government was committed to ensuring peace and security in the state.
Okowa, who stated this when the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, Mr Musa Daura, paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba, said his administration would sustain the existing peace in the state.
He thanked the police and other security agencies on the role played during the general elections, adding that the transition would not have been peaceful and successful without the security agencies.
Okowa noted that the partnership between the police and other stakeholders made the predictions of crises before the general elections to no effect as peace reigned before, during and after the elections.
“I want to believe that in every growing democracy, the police must be in partnership with the electoral body in order to achieve free and fair elections.
“We must thank you and your men for ensuring peace in Delta and the more peaceful we are able to keep our state, the more peaceful we are able to keep our country and the more likelihood we are going to see investment come in.
“So, we are very concerned about peace and security of our state and the police plays a very leading role and usually being supported by other security agencies,” he said.
The governor, however, appealed to the security agencies to work very hard to sustain the existing peace in order to attract more investors into the state, adding, “we will continue to give our support to the security agencies.”
Earlier, the AIG congratulated the governor on his victory in the April 11 governorship election and thanked the governor for supporting the police in the course of their duty.
He assured the governor that the police and other security agencies under Zone 5 comprising Edo, Delta and Bayelsa are working hard to keep the peace and ensure security in the zone.
Daura, however, solicited for more support to enable the security agencies do more in terms of fighting crimes in the zone.
“We are here to register our thanks and appreciation for the support given to security agencies in the state and to congratulate you on your victory in the general elections,” he said.
The AIG further assured that cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery among other crimes would be tamed in the zone.
