Education Ministry To Begin Exams Monitoring, Today
The Rivers State Ministry of Education has mapped out strategies to monitor activities at the on-going West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) today in a bid to check the trend of examination malpractice in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Richard Ofuru, while charging delegates assigned to monitor the examinations in schools, said the essence of monitoring the WASSCE today is to check the process of how examinations are conducted in various schools and report to the ministry.
“During the process, if the delegates observe any fowl play, they are expected to report immediately to the supervisors or call the available hot lines for immediate action.”
According to him, available records show that Rivers State is the number one in examination malpractice in Nigeria.
“As part of effort to check the trend of malpractice, the education ministry has already started the process by registering only Rivers indigenes”, he said.
The permanent secretary further revealed that Community Secondary School, Oyigbo, is a very problematic zone, stating that, the Commissioner for Education, the permanent secretary and other directors of the ministry will be at Oyigbo first to commence the monitoring.
He advised delegates to take the work serious saying that the staff of the ministry should reciprocate the trust reposed on them and ensure effective monitoring of examination in the various schools.
The different categories of organisations involved in this year’s monitoring exercise include directors from the ministry, International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
