Esit Eket LG Trains 500 Youths On ICT
Chairman of Esit Eket
Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, Mr Ibanga Etang, has said that the council had trained 500 youths on Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Etang disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Esit Eket.
He said that the local government organised the training in collaboration with the National Association of Esit Eket Students and other partners.
The local government chairman said that the training programme lasted between six months and one year.
“Part of the training was on the use of ICTs by candidates for JAMB, WAEC and NECO examinations,’’ Etang said.
He said that the council, in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), had also trained youths in various trades for employment in the oil and gas industry.
He said further that the council had assisted students to undertake specialised courses in foreign universities, donated trophies for inter-ward and inter-school football competitions and science quiz.
He said that the local government executed some projects such as procurement of five new vehicles for some of its principal officers and a 150KVA generator for the secretariat.
Etang said that his administration also restored public power supply to the secretariat and its environs.
He said that the council also rehabilitated two moribund water projects in the council’s secretariat and renovated the council chairman’s lodge.
In addition, he said that the council trained some women in fashion design, hair dressing and soap making and presented them with equipment and take-off grants to start business after the training.
