Siat Grants Scholarships To Eight Rivers Students
As part of its corporate social responsibilities, Siat Nigeria Limited has awarded undergraduate scholarships to eight indigenes of its Elele and Ubima host communities in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Managing Director of the company, Mr. Felix Nwabuko, who disclosed this at a ceremony recently in the area, said the scholarships, valued at N100,000 per student, per academic session from first year to graduation, take, effect from the 2015/2016 academic session.
Nwabuko said that the gesture was in appreciation of the peaceful disposition of the host communities towards the company, adding that corporate social responsibility is one of the three elements of the management principles of the company wherever it operates.
According to him, the company’s social responsibilities cover community development, education, health, outgrower scheme, amongst others.
The Managing Director said that the company makes its impact on its host communities through job creation, support to communities in the areas of education, water supply, electricity, roads, healthcare services, support to farmers through the supply of planting materials, securing markets for farmers as well as technical support through extension services.
He used the occasion to call on the beneficiaries to see the opportunity as a challenge to put in their best in their studies.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Otonye Okoye, commended the company for the initiative saying it will go along way to boost education in the area.
Okoye, who was represented by the Director, Livestock in the Ministry, Mr. P.D. Ojuka, urged other companies to emulate Siat through the provision of services to their host communities.
