Don Advises Customs On Strategic Communication
The Coordinator of Com
munication Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, has advised the Nigerian Customs Service personnel to adopt “ elation techniques” to sustain its good reputation.
Dandaura said this at a three-day workshop organized by NCS and the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for public relations officers and selected journalists in Uyo.
The university don, who is also a member of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), emphasised the need to build a solid relationship with journalists who would use the message to be well acceptable by audience.
He, however, urged the customs officers and men to issue press statements on time, to enable the reporters to meet up with the deadline for filing their stories.
Dandaura said that no organisation existed without efforts at winning the support of its publics.
He , explained that reputation survey involved feedback, comparison, strength and weakness, new government polices and regulation as well as new business trend.
The expert defined reputation as a general estimation that the public had for a person or organisation, adding that the reputation could also be defined as notoriety for some particular character.
Another public relations expect, Dr Alfred Edema, told the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to use strategic communication to influence targeted audience in achieving its desired goals.
In his paper on “Strategic Communication and Management’’ Edem stressed the need for image makers to know their targeted audiences since they constituted the foundation of a communication strategy.
He said that there must be ability for mobilisation of organisational relationship to influence perceptions and social norms before one could possess good public relations.
Edema said there was also the need to consider management decisions in the communication analysis and planning of an organisation.
