Youth Dev: Commissioner Rates RSG’s Performance High
The Rivers State Govern
ment has rated its performance on youth development at 70 per cent.
Rivers Commissioner for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi, who said this in an interview with newsmen during an inspection tour of Suzak Technical Service, one of the training centres said that within the last four years a great number of youths have been impacted with different skills such as welding and fabrication, production of interlocking stones as well as in Information Communication and Technology (ICT).
Wonodi also listed other areas in which youths have been trained including Batik Aluminium Steel works, fashion designing amongst others.
The commissioner said that the trainings were part of the effort by the state government to create a source of livelihood for the youths with the view to making them self-reliant.
He stressed the need for the incoming administration in the state to sustain the youth development programme of Amaechi government, adding that every effort must be made to ensure that youths in the state are given the necessary skills for self-reliance.
The commissioner also used the occasion to call on youths in the state to desist from being used us thugs by selfish politicians to destabilise the state.
In another development, the commissioner has solicited the support of civil servants and other categories of workers to put in their best for the overall growth and development of society.
Speaking during the presentation of awards to two staff of the ministry Wonodi said that there is always a reward for hardwork and urged other staff of the ministry to emulate the good example sets by the two awardees namely, Mrs. Owunate Amaso and Atubokiki Joshua.
The commissioner also commended the awardees for their support and urged them to extend same to whoever would be his successor.
