Delta Acquires Extrication Tools For Accident Victims
The Delta Government has acquired three tools for the rapid extrication of accident victims.
Chief Lawrence Osiegbu, the Commissioner, Directorate for Transport, told journalists in Asaba that the acquisition was in addition to the newly inaugurated 200 buses bought by the government for mass transit.
He said the government was determined to provide affordable, comfortable, safe, reliable and quality transport services to the people of the state.
The commissioner, who did not disclose the cost of the extrication equipment, said they would be deployed to the three senatorial districts.
He also said that plans were under way to improve riverine transportation through the provision of smaller craft to ply the creeks, as well as introduce riverine mass transit for boat operators.
Osiegbu said the directorate would ensure that the waterways were devoid of obstruction.
It would also build and rehabilitate jetties as well as waiting sheds, apart from undertaking regular inspection of boats, he said.
He explained that these measures were geared toward building a strong financial base for the creation and maintenance of transport infrastructures across Delta.
“This will serve the needs of the society and the economy in order to promote small, medium and micro enterprises,” he said.
The commissioner also said that in order to improve road safety, the directorate would provide directional signs as well as road traffic and warning signs.
