May 29 : Oruge Urges Check Off Dues Remittance
The out-gone chairman
of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Comrade Chris Oruge has pleaded with the State Government to clear the payment of check off dues before May 29 handover.
Oruge who said this at the just-concluded 11th quadrennial delegates conference in Port Harcourt also described the recent fire incident at the union’s secretariat as an act of desperation by some individuals.
He said that the non-remittance of check-off dues has set the union backward, especially in the payment of their employees.
The out-gone NLC chairman noted that Governor Chibuike-led administration would be remembered as the most workers friendly administration in the state.
“Distinguished delegates, I make bold to say that for the past four years, the leadership as epitomized by Governor Chibuike Amaechi has continued to open new vista of hope for the Rivers man.
“Undoubtedly, with renewed vigour and enthusiasm, the administration has clearly shown a commitment to realizing the Rivers dream with the ultimate goal of enthroning a people oriented and sustainable development,” he said.
According to him, the workers of Rivers State have in the last four years celebrated the best May Day in the country with the assistance of the state government.
“It will interest you to note that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi honoured us almost every year. His presence not with standing. He also gave us financial rewards” he said.
Oruge also pleaded with the government to donate two or three of the long buses packed at the Government House car parks to boost the union’s Mass Transit scheme.
