The new Bishop of Asaba Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Justus Mogekwu has decried the dearth of infrastructure in public schools in the country, attributing it to lack of maintenance culture.

Speaking when members of the Anglican Boys, Ubulu-Uku, Delta State Old Boys Association paid him a congratulatory visit at Bishop’s Court, Asaba, Bishop Mogekwu observed that lack of maintenance culture has been the bane of post-primary institutions in the country since their take-over from the missionaries by government.

Bishop Mogekwu took over from the new Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh.

He observed that while new structures are not being erected in the schools, the old ones are left, not maintained.

Mogekwu, however, observed that government has provided highly qualified man-power for the institutions, unlike when it was ran by the missionaries, but was also quick to note that though the teachers are better qualified, their impact on students are not being felt because they are not committed to making the best of their profession.

While calling on more efforts to uplift the standard of infrastructure in the secondary schools, the Anglican Bishop also called for more commitment on the parts of the teachers to ensure that the teachers acquire knowledge.

He thanked the old boys for their congratulatory visit on his elevation as a Bishop, and assured that he would contribute his quota to restoring the past glory of their alma mater.

Earlier, the leader of the team, Hon. Emmanuel Udorah said God deserves the glory that one of their old boys have been elevated to the position of a Bishop, observing that the Bishop started well as Chapel Prefect while in school.

Hon. Udorah, who is the Vice Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, observed that the Bishop has been prepared for the position he is holding as Shepherd of Anglican Communion from his secondary school days.

He bemoaned the dilapidation of infrastructure at Anglican Grammer School, Ubulu-Uku, saying that the old boys of the school are working stridently to restore the past glory of the institution.
