Stakeholders Want Re-Run Elections In Ahoada East
Stateholders in Ihuama
community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include Ward 10 of Ahoada East in the rescheduled election this Saturday.
A cross-section of stakeholders who spoke to newsmen in the area said that there was no election in the area during the governorship and House of Assembly elections as materials meant for the entire ward were hijacked.
They said that a report to this effect was immediately lodged with the electoral officers in charge of the Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of the people, Mr Abu F. Happiness criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ignoring the call by the people of the area to be included in the rescheduled election.
Mr Happiness said that apart from the hijack of the electoral materials meant for the entire ward by suspected political thugs, no INEC officials were seen in the area during the election.
He argued that this situation had underscored why the elections should be rescheduled in the area for this Saturday.
Mr Happiness, who claimed that he was not a member of any political party, regretted that the people of Ihuama Ward 10 Unit 15 had been disenfranchised.
He argued that the only way to correct this injustice was to allow the people participate in the re-run election scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) this weekend in parts of the state.
Mr Happiness also expressed the people’s readiness to co-operate with the electoral officers to ensure a hitch-free exercise in the area.
