Customs Boss Wants Officers To Justify Promotions
Newly promoted senior
officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have been urged to redouble their efforts and efficiency as to justify their new ranks.
The Comptroller General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi gave the charge while approving the release of the list of 2,065 senior officers that were promoted following the conclusion of the exercise and ratification by the Board of the Nigeria Customs Service in Abuja, recently.
Abdullahi said the exercise was in line with the human capacity development drive in the Nigerian Customs and enjoined them to maintain high level of discipline, performance and prove that they merit their promotions.
He, however, congratulated them on their well-deserved promotions which included competitive computer-based examination and oral interview.
A breakdown of the promotion exercise indicated that 48 Deputy Controllers were promoted to the rank of Comptrollers, 81 Assistant Comptrollers to Deputy Comptrollers, as 112 Chief Superintendents of Customs were elevated to the rank of Assistant Comptrollers while 32 Superintendents are now Chief Superintendents of Customs.
A total of 121 Deputy Superintendents of Customs got to the rank of Superintendents of Customs, 65 Assistant Superintendents of Customs to Deputy Superintendents of Customs while 15 Assistant Superintendents of Customs II were also elevated to Assistant Superintendents of Customs I.
According to the statement by the Comptroller General of Customs a total of 1,591 officers benefitted in the Inspectorate Cadre, and out of this figure, 1, 493 are General Duty Officers while 98 officers are support staff.
The promotion interview was conducted at all the Customs formations in the country, which took place in October and November, 2014.
Meanwhile, Zone C Headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt, Rivers State has officially decorated 12 officers who were promoted during the exercise.
The Tide gathered that shortly after the decoration, some of the promoted officers hailed the comptroller general of customs for his magnanimity, improved welfare packages and innovations for officers and men of the service, adding that the exercise is one of the best things that had happened in customs and noted that the promotion would spur them to do more to justify their promotion and face the new challenges in the service.
