Uduaghan Lauds INEC Over Card Reader
Governor Emmanuel
Uduaghan of Delta, has applauded the success of the card reader used for accrediting him during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
He said that the Card Reader polling officials used in accrediting him and his wife Roli worked “worked perfectly.’’
He made the statement on Saturday after casting his vote at about 3.30 p.m. at his Ward six unit one, in his hometown Abiugborodo, Warri North Local Government Area.
He told newsmen that though there were some hitches in some parts of the state, the conduct of the elections were smooth in his ward.
He said that it took him less than one minute to get accredited despite the late arrival of voting materials.
He said: “The Card Reader worked perfectly for me and my wife Roli; however I have been getting feelers from the field about the failure of the card readers in some parts of the state.
“I cannot give a general assessment of the card readers, but for me and my wife, it was smooth.
“In this polling unit, the turnout was quite impressive, there is a lot of enthusiasm; people waited patiently to get accredited and now they are voting.”
Uduaghan said he had directed Mr Yakubu Alkali the state Commissioner of Police to commence investigation on the assault on Mr Raymond Edijala.
It has been alleged that Edijala, a former caretaker committee chairman in Udu Local Government Area and a PDP stalwart was manhandled by political thugs.
Uduagan said: “Edijala was beaten by thugs masterminded by the opposition party when election materials were being distributed.
“I intend to talk to the Resident Electoral Commissioner that in spite of the delay, the elections can take place in Udu latest by tomorrow.”
Udughan said that if elections did not take place before Sunday it would delay the result from the state.
He said that the House of Representatives election in Ethiope East was suspended due to swap of voting materials.
