The Rivers State
Government has again cautioned youths in the state against electoral violence.
The state Commissioner for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi, stated this while addressing the third session of the First Assembly of the Rivers State Youth Parliament in Port Harcourt.
Sir Wonodi also tasked the parliamentarians to do all within their capacity to encourage their fellow youths to shun electoral violence.
The commissioner who was represented by the Director, Youth Mobilisation in the ministry, Mrs Rhuoma Kejeh noted that the present administration attached high premium on youth development, a situation which had made the parliament to be an integral part of the youth ministry.
“The Rivers State government under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (CON) has given a platform for youths to be trained on parliamentary procedure and processes.
“It is hoped that the voices of these youths will be heard. The importance this administration places on youth development had led to the Rivers State Youth Parliament being an integral part of the ministry of Youth Development’s budget,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Youths Parliament has passed a motion condemning the continued abduction of the Chibok girls.
The parliament also urged the state government to make provision in the model secondary schools for the Chibok girls as soon as they regain their freedom.
The House also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their gallant efforts in making decisive progress in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.
Speaker of the parliament, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ijork said that the parliament had made useful contributions to the development of youths in the state.
