Dickson Harps On Peaceful Polls
Bayelsa State governor,
Hon. Seriake Dickson has sued for peace in the country, especially in some areas that are being terrorised by the Islamic sect-Boko Haram.
Calling on the people to give peace a chance at a unity rally organised by the New Nigeria Initiatives and Peace Trumpeters, the governor said no religion preaches violence and as a result the worshippers should abide by the tenets of their religion.
Borrowing the words of President Jonathan, Hon. Dickson, declared that that neither his political ambition nor that of any man is worth the blood of any man, therefore, calling on Nigerians to strive for peace and eschew violence before, during and after the elections.
According to him, ‘there can be no development without sustainable peace in any nation and that Nigeria needs peace to forge ahead in her developmental agenda of transformation of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“Mr. President stands for peace, he has said repeatedly that nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any man and that is our political creed in this state and we recommend it to every state, especially during the elections at this time. We should not just win the elections but we should collectively win the peace as well.
“Bayelsa today is the most peaceful state and I want to thank the New Nigerian Initiative and the Peace Trumpeters for coming to sound this message at this time and I enjoin you all to send this message to all other states of the federation”.
Gov. Dickson further appreciated everyone for being present and prayed God to cause peace to reign in the country at large.
Chief Zeckive Ikiogha, the Chief of Staff Government House, Abuja and Dr Ezekiel Patrick National Director, New Nigerian Initiative, in their separate speeches called for peace in the country, saying there are symptoms of violence already reflecting in the speeches of politicians.
