2015: NIS Urges Personnel To Be Neutral
The Cross River
Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has urged its officers and men to be neutral during the forthcoming general elections.
The Comptroller in charge of the command, Mrs Funke Adeuyi, made the call in Calabar at a one-day sensitisation workshop on the conduct of the polls.
Adeuyi said that the objective of the workshop was to educate the personnel who would be deployed for election duties.
“We are non-partisan, we belong to no political group and we are not expected to canvass votes for any political party or politicians.
“We are deploying our men to go out there and perform their duties with a high sense of patriotism. They are to protect every Nigerian at the polling units.
“I can assure you that our officers are well behaved and trained, and they are expected to carry out their constitutional duties as expected,’’ Adeuyi said.
An official of NIS, Mr Aminu Abubakar, who presented a paper titled ‘Standard of Operational Guidelines for Security Officers on Election Day’, urged the personnel of the NIS to be alert and cautious.
Abubakar also stressed the need for them to create an enabling environment for the electorate to vote without any intimidation.
“As personnel of the NIS, you are expected to verify all electoral materials before escorting same to different poling units.
“Don’t intimidate any voter because you are wearing uniform. Be neutral in your conduct,” he said.
