300 Persons Benefit From JCI Free Health Programme
No fewer than 300 persons
benefitted from the Free Medical Outreach organised by Port Harcourt Metropolitan Chapter of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) at Bundu Community in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State recently.
The beneficiaries who were treated of Malaria, eye problems and other ailments also got free medicated eye glasses, mosquito nets and health lectures by a team of medical doctors and other health personnel.
During the health lecture session, Dr. Stellamaris Ojogbo of Krystal Opticals Port Harcourt stressed the need for proper protection from malaria saying it had killed more people than HIV/AIDS, leprosy and other diseases.
The medical expert said, “as pregnant woman always protect yourself from malaria because it puts your life and that of your unborn child at great risk”, and advised them to always go for ante-natal and also develop the habit of running medical test.
The optician described the eye as one of the most important parts of human body and deserved proper care to avoid damage.
She advised them against self medication, applying human urine when one contacts ‘apollo’. “Most of the ailments affecting the body also show through the eyes. Don’t just go to the chemist or involve yourself in self medication, go to see the eye doctor”, she said.
She equally warned against patronizing roadside medical glasses saying it is capable of complicating situations.
The National President of (JCI) Nigeria, Ambassador Seun Osikalu commended the Port Harcourt Metropolitan Chapter of the body for organising the prograamme.
“It is our goal to make positive impact in our society. We have shown it today and will continue to show it”, said the National President.
Osikalu who was also the Special Guest at the event advised beneficiaries of the free medical outreach to use the drugs accordingly and also use the mosquito net for its purpose.
