NOA Tasks Political Parties On Peace Accord
The National Orientation
Agency (NOA) Rivers State has tasked the leadership of the two major political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) to abide by the tenet of the peace accord signed recently by the governorship candidates.
State Acting Director of the Agency, Mr. Oliver Wolugbom who said this while reacting to attack on the All Progressive Congress, in Okrika also cautioned politicians against inflammatory statements.
Mr. Wolugbom said that, the incident at Okrika was sad reflection of the level of political intolerance in the society, stressing that people must be allowed to go about their campaigns without molestation.
He described those who perpetuated the violence at Okrika as enemies of …. stressing the need for peace during and after the forth-coming general elections.
He further commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for setting up a panel to investigate the incidence adding that the outcome of the investigation should be made public and the culprits brought to book.
Mr. Wolugbom said that the NOA through its local governments and zonal offices had embarked on series of enlightenment campaigns to educate the electorates on the need or peace as well as ensure the collection of their permanent voters cards (PVC).
According to him, since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that permanent voters card guarantees one the right to vote, it means that those who did not get t will not vote.
He also advised the INEC to ensure that every eligible and registered voters in the state get their permanent voters card before elections.
