FRSC Urges Users On Road Safety
The Federal Road
Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on road users to be ambassadors of safety of lives on Nigeria roads.
The Lagos State Sector Commander, Mr Hyginus Umeje, made the appeal at the annual thanksgiving service of the corps at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Ikeja, Lagos.
“We are appreciating God for keeping our lives safe day and night, we are on the roads without gun or any ammunition and God has always been seeing us through the dangers on the road.
“Road safety is a collective responsibility, this is the reason we take our enlightenment campaigns to churches, mosques, market places, schools and other public places,” Umeje said.
He condemned the use of mobile phones while driving which, he said, had been the cause of most accidents lately. He related it to the church and urged all to discourage the use of handset in the sacred place.
“Our roads should also be a sacred place because a slightest mistake on the road can claim lives. We should learn to obey traffic rules and regulations and traffic managers on the road.
“The road is no respecter of anybody, children and mothers carrying babies should sit at the back seat, do not overload your vehicle and always be religious to maximum speed limits on the road,” he said.
Monsignor John Aniagwu, in his homily, commended the work of the FRSC members in reducing accidents to the barest minimum.
Aniagwu said that Nigerians should learn to fear God and not God fearing Nigeria.
“Nigeria is filled with many churches and mosques but we do not crave to seek God but our own selfish desires.
“We pray to God that the sickness of greed and other vices should not be a terminal end for Nigeria,” he said.
