Expert Advises Nigerians On Life Insurance
The Deputy Commis
sioner for Finance and Administration, National Insurance Commission, Mr George Onekhene, has urged Nigerians to undertake life insurance policies.
Onekhene told newsmen in Benin that it was imperative to encourage the populace to undertake insurance policies because of its importance in securing the future.
“Beyond the issue of its contribution to the GDP and its role in the economy in our kind of world, insurance is very key especially life insurance.
“Life insurance is very cheap. Every family should make provision to take care of the future,’’ he said.
According to Onekhene, one of the major challenges in the country is that many people die from sicknesses that ordinarily should not kill.
He said such a situation had made it important that necessary financial arrangement be made to take care of families in the event of the death of the breadwinner.
He, therefore, called on insurance companies to properly enlighten the populace on the need to undertake insurance policies.
Onekhene said NAICOM had numerous incentives to boost the insurance sub-sector, adding that the only challenge was to ensure that the citizenry keyed into the programmes.
He said the media had a major role to play by communicating the various insurance opportunities available to the public.
He advised the media to invest in insurance education, to help in understanding the sector better and improve on their reportage of the industry.
