Lagos Ports Bubble As 21 Vessels With Products Arrive
About 21 ships laden with fuel arrived Lagos Port Complex (LPC) and Tin Can Island Port (TCIP), last week, and are now discharging their contents for onward distribution to tank farms and filling stations across the country.
The arrival, berthing and discharging of the contents of the vessels means that Lagos ports have witnessed increased activities in the last couple of days, as hope rises for the reduction of tension and queues at the filling stations across the country amid Easter celebrations by Christian faithfuls.
The shipping position released by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Lagos last Thursday, showed that 16 of the ships were carrying petrol while five were laden with aviation fuel and kerosene.
As at the time of this report, The Tide sources indicated that five other bulk cargo ships were waiting to discharge their cargoes, with one of them, MV BBC Konan, carrying 51 trucks on board.
The Tide learnt that the ports would be busy this month as a total of 106 vessels are being expected.
Of the total number expected this month, 16 are said to be laden with petroleum products.
The arrival of more vessels conveying imported petroleum products means that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and other major marketers saddled with the responsibility of importing products into the country would be busy this month, and more products would be available to end-users.
The Tide investigations reveal that in the last couple of weeks, most filling stations across the nation, especially in Port Harcourt, have been dispensing products to motorists, corporate bodies, institutions and domestic users with some level of ease.
