Oil Firm Boosts Gas Delivery To Alaoji Power Plant
Power supply in the country has got a boost as Total E&P Nigeria Limited (TEPNG) has completed a section of its Northern Option Pipeline (NOPL) from KM 38 at Oyibo in Rivers State to KM 50 at Imo River making it ready for gas inflow to the National Integrated Power Plant (NIPP) at Alaoji near Aba in Abia State.
A statement released by the company and made available to The Tide said that this feat was actualized on Monday, January 12, 2015.
The Managing Director of the company, Elizabeth Proust, said, “this milestone will help bring to reality the FG’s aspiration of improved electric power supply in Nigeria and demonstrates Total’s commitment to meeting its promises to deliver better energy”.
The NOPL is a 24″ wide 50Km long pipeline under construction by Total on behalf of the NNPC/TEPNG Joint Venture.
It is expected that the project would deliver 100 million cubic feet of gas per day to the power plant when completed later this year.
In an effort to ensure early gas supply to the newly built power plant, federal government mandated Total to complete a section of the NOPL from KM 38 at Oyibo to KM 50 at Imo River where the line connects to Nigeria gas Company (NGC) to allow gas inflow to the Alaoji power plant.
According to the statement, “this intervention for early gas required that TEPNG mobilised additional resources to fast track the works in order to meet the deadline despite numerous challenges associated with the difficult terrain”.
The gas being supplied to the Alaoji Power Plant during this interim period, according to the statement will come from Seven Energy while NGC will transport the gas through their pipeline and a section of NOPL.
