The UNDP, in collabo
ration with a Plateau-based NGO, Apurumac Onlus, has graduated no fewer than 500 students in various skills.
The skills area covered catering, fashion design, phone repairs and shoe making.
Speaking at the graduation in Jos on Thursday, the Country Director of UNDP,Mr Lamin Beyai, said its mission programme was to help accelerate development globally, especially in developing nations.
He said UNDP was ready to partner development programmes, especially those regarding youths, because they were the future of the society.
The Plateau Director of Apurumac Onlus,Mr Godwin Okoko, said the organisation was graduating its 22nd set of graduates in skills.
He explained that the students were trained for a period of six months in their chosen skills of interest.
“The students are given the opportunity to choose skills according to their area of interest; the programme is to make them self reliant and have a source of livelihood, “ he said.
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Gyang Pwajok, who attended the occasion, urged the graduates to be committed in practising the various skills they had acquired.
“Your commitment in small beginning paves way for a brighter future; it also blesses the work of your hands, “ he said.
Pwajok donated N1 million to the partnership and called on the graduates, who were youths, to be role models in the society.
