NNWL Set To Improve League Competition
The Chairman, Nige
ria Nation-Wide League (NNWL), Ahmed Kawu, has said the body was taking measures to improve the quality of the local league by shoring up its fan as base.
Kawu told newsmen in Abuja that with recent developments in the competition the 2014/2015 league season would be better than it used to be.
“This is a new Nation-Wide League. Our target is that Nigerians should start watching the Nation-Wide League instead of the foreign leagues.
“Though the prospects of doing this are many, but they are taking shape in due time.
“For instance, we are signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). We want them to be televising at least two of our matches every week,’’ he said.
The NNWL board chairman said also that the league body’s conditions for registering players’ licence and facilities are strict.
“For example, no division one club will play in an environment that is not conducive.
“This is also the first time we are getting sponsors since the history of the league.
“I can assure that this is the best football league in the country in terms of our conduct, activities and serving the purpose the league was created,’’ he said.
Kawu however said the league’s greatest challenge was lack of finance.
“We (NNWL) are the backbone of football in this country, yet we are not getting full support from either the government or the National Sports Commission (NSC).
“We (the management) just try to put our heads together to support the league,’’ he said.
2014/2015 league season is expected to begin in March.
