Black Congressional Caucus Endorses RSG’s Scholarship Scheme
The Congressional Black Caucus of the State of Georgia, United States of America (USA) has described the Rivers State Governor’s Special Overseas Scholarship as a model for other states in Nigeria.
Senator Donzella James, who spoke on behalf of the caucus during a meeting with the management of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) in Port Harcourt, also disclosed the readiness of the State of Georgia to begin an exchange programme with the state in education, health, agriculture and small businesses.
James, who represents District 35 in the Georgian Senate, said that a lot of opportunities abound in Georgia that can be linked up to Rivers State for the benefit of the people of the two states and countries with the view to eradicating poverty.
She thanked the agency for the good work it was doing, stressing that the RSSDA has created a pool of manpower for the future development of the state.
Also speaking, a member of the Georgian House of Representatives, Dee Dawkins Haigler said that Georgia, which has the highest members in congressional black caucus in the United States, promotes the economic emancipation of children from poor and rural homes.
She said that the visit to the Rivers State Sustainable development Agency (RSSDA) will facilitate the opening of exchange programmes in all facets of human endeavour, stressing that there are businesses all over Georgia that the RSSDA can tap into in its drive to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and deprivations.
Speaking later in aninterview, she said that her trip to Africa has shown that the continent was open to business, stressing that this situation would be showcased across the United States.
Earlier, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), Mr. Noble Pepple, had said that the agency, established seven years ago, has developed several programmes to eradicate poverty in the state.
He listed some of these programmes to include, the special overseas scholarship programme, agriculture development projects, small and medium scale businesses, among others.
Pepple said that the RSSDA was open to any international collaborations on all areas of human endeavour, and solicited more areas of partnership with businesses and development driven institutions in Georgia.
