Parliamentarians Call For Establishment Of Youth Dev Centres
The Rivers State Youth
Parliament has ended its three days sitting in Port Harcourt with a resolution urging the state government to establish youth development centres in the three zones of the state.
The parliament also urged the government to provide loans and equipment for youths of Rivers State origin who had undergone skills acquisition training.
It also passed a resolution calling for amnesty for the inmates of Port Harcourt prison with minor offences while the Rivers Songhai farm currently in Bunu Tai Rivers South East be replicated in the two other senatorial zones of the state as well as the creation of centres for sickle cell anaemia across the state.
It also appealed to various security agencies in the state to braceup for the challenges of ensuring security during the forth-coming elections.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Youth Parliament has adopted a motion urging the Rivers State ministries of Health and Environment to sensitise rural communities on the need for high level of hygiene and cleanliness.
The sponsorer of the motion who is also the chairman House Committee on Health, Hon. Sotonye Davies said that the cholera outbreak in Andoni was a pointer to poor sanitary condition in the rural areas.
Hon. Davies who represented Degema in the parliament said that the Ministry of Health must wakeup to its responsibility by ensuring healthcare services for the people, while the government must also provide potable drinking water for the people.
Speaking on the motion, the Speaker of the parliament Hon. Emmanuel Ijork said that members should go to their various communities to sensitise them on the importance of cleanliness.
Later in an interview with newsmen, Hon. Ijork said that the first sitting of the second Assembly was successful in view of the number of resolutions passed.
