Emulate Monipulo, NUJ Tells Other Firms
The chairman of the Rivers State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Opaka Dokubo has commended the management of Monipulo Petroleum Development Company for their sponsorship of the union’s workshop on ethics.
Mr. Dokubo who gave the commendation Tuesday during a visit to the firm enjoined other companies in the state to emulate Monipulo.
Responding, the Deputy Managing Director of the company, Mrs. Ovundah-Akarolo challenged journalist to always uphold the truth in their reports.
Mrs. Ovundah-Akarolo said it was by upholding the truth that journalists in the state can hold the people accountable and continue being the watch dog of the society.
She commended the NUJ Ethics Committee for its vision to reposition journalism practice in Rivers State and advised it not to relent in its efforts.
According to her, Monipulo decided to sponsor the union’s recent workshop because the proposal put forward by the ethics committee was in line with the vision of the company, which was based on excellence and integrity.
Presently, the reports of the ethics workshop, which took place in Port Harcourt on March 4, to the company, Mr. Dokubo said the NUJ would be glad if Monipulo could make the sponsorship an annual event.
