Yuletide: Rivers FRSC Set To Ensure Roads Safety
The Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Sector Command said it is deploying all its personnel and logistics to roads across the state to ensure that traffic infringements are met with appropriate sanctions.
The Sector Commander, Mr Sunday Oghenekaro dropped the hint in an interview with The Tide correspondent in his office on Monday.
Oghenekaro opined that the action was to ensure strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations by motorists for a safe and smooth motoring during the yuletide period and beyond.
He said all road users should be conscious of themselves that only the living celebrates, and that while wishing them happy New Year and prosperous 2015, they should ensure safe and smooth motoring during the festive season.
The Sector Commander, who expressed satisfaction with all stakeholders including the personnel, special marshals, Road Safety Club members, and the press hinted that the year 2014 had been a very busy one for the command with various programmes but had also been rewarding greatly, in their efforts towards reducing incidences of road crashes in the state.
According to him, the collaborating effort of the command during the year brought great benefit to drivers in the state with the free monthly drivers training conducted by the command at their premises where vehicle maintenance drivers psychology, benefits of instability of speed limiting devices where explained to the attendees.
The State FRSC boss also hinted that the trainees were also guided on the need to obey all traffic rules and regulations as well as show consideration to other road users aimed towards promoting general safety, and commended both the religious agencies, ministries, departments, multi-nationals operating within the state and all categories or road safety stakeholders for their co-operation and support.
He said other collaborators like the transport operators, unions, the fleet operators and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state also contributed to the success story, stressing that as highlighted in the 2014 FRSC Road Safety Campaign with its theme, “Road Safety is a Shared Responsibility; It Depends on You” had also helped motorists to ensure that they are duly trained. Licensed to drive, they are in good health condition to drive and avoid in constituting risks or hazards to safety on the road.
“To God be the glory that Rivers State sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has done so much in cases of reducing road crashes efforts, Oghenekoro posited, and promised to intensity their public education, enlightenment and campaigns at motor parks in the state.
