TETFund Spends N19bn On Lecturers’ Training
The Tertiary Education
Trust Fund (TETFund) has disclosed that the sum of N19 billion was expended in training and building the capacities of lecturers across 71 public universities, 51 polytechnics and 61 colleges of education (CoEs) in 2014.
This is as the fund reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to thorough and accelerated development of the nation’s tertiary institutions.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Fund, Mr. Musa Babayo, while speaking at the third long term service award ceremony for staff in Abuja at the weekend, said the investment in training lecturers is borne out of an urgent need to shore up intellectual capacities of some of the academics.
The impact of such training, he said, would soon be felt within the sector.
Babayo further disclosed that N15.4 billion was also expended for the construction and equipment of laboratories in state and federal polytechnics nationwide, within the same year.
“Staff ,who are expected to man the new facilities had also been trained so as not to jeopardize the objective of the project…2014 was a fulfilling year for us at TETFund, but of course we are not resting on our oars”, he said.
The Executive Secretary of the Fund, Mr. Suleiman Bogoro, gave the assurance that the agency will consolidate on these achievements recorded in 2014 during the incoming year.
