No Mercenaries At NIPOGA 2014 – Official
The Director Technical,
Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), Alhaji Dangana Nma, said no mercenaries were detected at, the 2014 edition  of the games which held this month.
Dangana said in an interview with newsmen in Bida, Niger State that the thorough screening of the athletes had ensured that those that participated were genuine.
The games, which ended on Saturday, December 13, was hosted by the Federal Polytechnic, Bida
According to him, the absence of mercenaries have made the 2014 games peaceful and fruitful.
“ We had a hitch free NIPOGA that is devoid of crises and rancour largely because there were no mercenaries.
“ If we were desperate that we must win at all cost, certainly crises would have rocked here and that would be unwholesome for us and our visitors,’’ he said.
Dangana stated that after the games the institution would appraise its sports facilities and articulate ways to maintain them.
He commended the performance of athletes fielded by the polytechnic, assuring that they would be duly rewarded.
The director said the task before the school was to raise new athletes that would participate in the West African Polytechnic Games (WAPOGA) slated for Ghana in 2015.
He said most of the present crop of athletes from the institution would graduate before the games.
Dangana said the polytechnic would use the zonal games introduced by NIPOGA to test the athletes it would parade in Ghana.
The director appealed to individuals and organisation to redeem their pledges to enable the polytechnic raise enough money to complete its multi purpose indoor sports hall.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
