Scrabble Federation Holds Zonal Championship, This Month
The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), has scheduled its zonal championship in all the six geo-political zones of the country in this month to select players for the national team.
NSF Secretary James Eakyns told newsmen in Lagos that the championship now supersedes the National Tournament Directors/Adjudicator’s Workshop earlier fixed for April.
“All the zones have been mandated to organise closed scrabble championship for the six geo-political zones of the country,’’ he said.
According to the secretary, the federation has begun an aggressive marketing drive to attract sponsors for its activities in the year.
“We have applied to over 20 corporate organisations, including state governments to sponsor our programmes for the year.
“We will start to monitor these organisations for feedback in the third week of April exactly a month after the letters were dispatched to them,’’ he said.
Eakyns said the federation had also fixed a workshop on school scrabble for the third week in May in Lagos.
The secretary said the National Universities Championship, would hold in Lagos in the second quarter of the year, while the qualifying tournament for the African Championship would be in August.
He said camping for the African championship had been fixed for September and October in Lagos, ahead of the tournament in Ghana in October
