Ewu Monarch Decries Menace Of Erosion
The monarch of Ewu,
Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo, Alhaji Rasak Ojeifo, has decried the menace of gully erosion in the area.
Ojeifo said an interview with) newsmen in Ewu yesterday that the erosion would devastate a larger section of the community, if not properly checked.
According to him, the erosion which had washed away 15 houses in the community, is beyond what the local and state governments can contain.
He said that the menace had destroyed the major road leading to the community while the people now lived in fear, especially when it rained.
He said: “If nothing is done to address the menace, the Ewu community will go into extinction.
“This problem has gone beyond what the state government or local government can take care of.
“The devastating effect and magnitude of the problem is such that only the federal government can address, and we appeal to the federal government to come to our rescue.
“My people have had a bitter experience of this menace; many have abandoned their homes while others now sleep with their eyes open each time it rains.
He said that with the devastating effect of the erosion on the community this year, the people were very worried about the havoc it would cause during next year’s rainy season.
