Workers Are Middlemen Between Gov, Masses –Deemua
Former Permanent Secretary in the Rivers State Ministry of Sports, Bernard O. Deemua has reiterated the need for civil servants to see themselves as the middle men between the government and the masses.
Deemua who was speaking during a send-off party organised by the ladies of the sports ministry in his honour, said that government programmes and projects only gets to the public through the works of the civil servants.
The retiring permanent secretary howevers noted the need for workers to eschew greediness and the use of their positions to undo others, saying that there is always the need to create good working environment where workers would work peacefully.
He commended the ladies for their kind gesture, adding that he would never forget the peaceful and unified atmosphere that existed during his stay with them as the permanent secretary.
Deemua advised the workers to extend the same co-operation to the next permanent secretary and charged them to always be guided by “who are we, where are we coming from, what are we doing on earth and where do we go from here”, in order to be applauded by posterity.
Earlier, the Principal Executive Accounting Officer of the ministry, Mrs. K. George described the outgoing permanent secretary as a father indeed, who irrespective of the difficulty in managing human beings have kept a clear record in his service in the ministry.
In his goodwill message, the Director of Sports Development, Mr. Edwin Amadi commended the mothers of the ministry for showing their virtue as mothers to the retiring father of the ministry.
