RSUST: Fakae Assures On World-Class Education
The Vice Chancellor of the
Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) Port Harcourt, Professor Barineme Fakae has said that the University has the prospect of becoming a world class.
Speaking during the institution’s 30th Inaugural Lecture in Port Harcourt, Professor Fakae said that the institution is witnessing tremendous improvements in all its departments and faculties, adding that, the University is the first and only institution in the country with a Professor of Photo-Chemistry.
According to the Vice Chancellor, this situation shows that the institution is catching up with its peers in other parts of the world.
He also said that the institution had already outlined dates for inaugural lectures from now till December 2015, while the guest lecturers had also been known.
Professor Fakae also thanked the staff and students of the University for their continuous support and urged them to sustain it.
In his lecture entitled; “Let There Be Light: Photo Chemistry In Acton,” Professor Godswill Kuta Fekarurhobo said that the climatic condition of Nigeria had underscored the need for the adoption of a research methodology that was peculiar to the country.
Professor Fekarurhobo who is the only Professor of Photo Chemistry in the whole of Nigeria said that most researches being done in temperate climate of Europe and America were no longer suitable for the hot climate of Nigeria.
He also cautioned against continuous exposure of some food items such as vegetables to sunlight as it made them to loss their texture.
The University Don also stressed the need for the society to encourage the use of photoactive insecticide and herbicide.
