NIWA Holds Safety Campaign In Rivers
The National Inland
Waterways Authority (NIWA), Port Harcourt Area Office says it has finalized plans to organize a safety awareness campaign for its stakeholders in the state.
Disclosing this to The Tide in his office at Marine Base Port Harcourt yesterday, the Port Harcourt Area office, Manager, Abdullahi Dabai, said stakeholders from all walks of life will be sensitise on the need to always use life jackets, the dangers of over-loading, over-speeding, drunk driving of craft or speedboats, safety regulations as well as operational competence.
Dabai hinted that the campaign which will take place on November 26, 2014 at the NIWA Dockyard, Marine Base, Port Harcourt, is expected to have in attendance Captains of industry, chiefs, mariners, boat operators, dredgers, pipeline users, jetty operators, among others.
According to him, the Governor of Rivers State, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, is expected to be the special guest of honour, while the managing director and chief executive officer of NIWA, Hajiya Inna Maryam Ceroma, is the chief host.
