Uduaghan Cautions Guber Aspirants On Divisive Actions
Governor Emmanuel
Uduaghan of Delta State has charged governorship aspirants in the state to shun divisive actions capable of breaching the peace in the state.
Uduaghan gave the charge in Asaba when he swore in the last batch of the elected chairmen of two local government areas in the state.
The governor, who expressed displeasure over the attitude of some of the governorship aspirants, said though he was not afraid of any gang-up, they should speak the truth in the interest of the state.
“Those who are aspiring to be governor should stop creating trouble; I have tried to be fair to all in our journey towards 2015”, he said.
“Two weeks ago during the ward congresses, I had meetings with the governorship aspirants, every aspirant and every leader contributed to the emergence of the delegates through a consensus list. “They all applauded the free and fair nature of the congress that brought up the delegates list and the panel took the list to Abuja and some aspirants commend the process; so, where is this opposition coming from?’’
He charged those involved in the bickering to retrace their steps because the state belonged to every one of them and not to a particular individual.
Uduaghan, however, congratulated the chairmen for their victory, and urged them to concentrate on security, payment of staff salaries, as well as ensure implementation of development projects in their councils.
“Your elections have proven that women can be elected into office, women should be elected and they should put themselves forward to be elected. Today, we have four elected chairmen of councils‘, there are many vice chairmen who are women,’’ he said.
The governor gave the assurance that “any woman who puts herself forward for elective position will get maximum support if she is loyal, dedicated and does not gang-up against the people’’.
Our correspondent reports that Mrs Nkechi Chukwurah and Mrs Faith Majemite were sworn in as chairpersons of Ndokwa East and Ethiope East local government areas, respectively.
The two councils had issues during the October 25 local government elections resulting in the State Independent Electoral Commission postponing elections in the area till November 12.
Chukwurah and Majemite, both of the People’s Democratic Party, won the election and were issued certificates of return on November 13.
Majemite, who responded on behalf of the newly sworn in chairmen, thanked the governor and members of the PDP for making it possible for them to be elected.
She promised that they would not let the people down, saying, “All that you will hear from us is that we are performing, we will not let you down.’’
