Commissioner Inaugurates Street Lights In 16 Communities
The Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State witnessed a significant milestone recently, as the Commissioner for Power, Prince Solomon Eke, officially inaugurated solar-powered street lights across 16 communities in the local government.
The event forms part of the activities to commemorate the first 100 days of the Hon Monday Dumiye administration.
The chairman, in his address, expressed deep appreciation to the esteemed Royal Fathers, religious leaders, party stalwarts and faithful supporters who graced the occasion despite their tight schedules.
He emphasised his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects, and assured the public of continued infrastructural development across the local government.
The Special Guest of Honour, Hon. Prince Solomon Eke, the Commissioner for Power, while commissioning the solar-powered streetlights at Mogho Junction, noted that the chairman of the local government, Hon Dumiye, has aligned with the vision of the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubar, by prioritising the needs of the people.
Dumiye recalled his campaign promises, which centred on ensuring peace and security, reviving the area’s tourism potential, and restoring nightlife in the local government.
He affirmed that his administration has remained steadfast in fulfilling these promises, with the installation of solar-powered street lights being a major step towards achieving them.
“Since my assumption of office, we have prioritised security and urban renewal, and the installation of these solar-powered street lights is a testament to our commitment to the safety and well-being of our people,” he said.
He highlighted the transformational impact of the street lights, which have enhanced the nighttime aesthetics of Gokana and spurred economic activities, with small businesses now thriving under improved lighting conditions.
Other upcoming events include the inauguration of the reconstructed and remodelled Administrative Block at the council premises.
The chairman listed several other projects successfully completed within the first 100 days of his tenure, which are set for inauguration.
These include the renovation and remodelling of Community Primary Schools in Bodo, Biara, Lewe, K-Dere and Bua-Yeghe; renovation of the office complex housing the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service; complete rehabilitation of the Gokana Central Stadium; renovation and remodelling of the NULGE Administrative Block at the Gokana Council Secretariat, Kpor; and renovation of the Corpers Lodge at Bomu Secondary School.
Dumiye expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Rivers State, Sir SiminalayiFubara, for his unwavering support, which has greatly contributed to the success of his administration’s development initiatives.
He also commended the Leader and members of the Gokana 10th Legislative Assembly for their harmonious working relationship with the executive arm, which has facilitated the seamless execution of projects.
He further acknowledged the dedication of council workers, announcing that all outstanding salaries and arrears have been duly settled.
The chairman urged community members to take ownership of the projects by safeguarding them from vandalisation, emphasising the collective responsibility in sustaining the infrastructural gains.
The celebration of the administration’s first 100 days in office continues with further project inaugurations in the days ahead, and the chairman called on all stakeholders to participate in the remaining events.

Rivers Deputy Governor Hails PH City One Love For Humanitarian Gesture
Rivers state Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Nma Odu has commended “The Port Harcourt City One Love,”a Port Harcourt based humanitarian orgnisation For it’s commitment towards alleviating the sufferings of the poor and vulnerable in the society.
Professor Ngozi Nma Odu said this while speaking at this year’s edition of “operation feed the needy” a yearly outreach program of “The Port Harcourt City One Love ” in Port Harcourt.
The Deputy Governor said by feeding more than sixty thousands hungry people within the past six years, the Port Harcourt City One Love Movement has distinguished itself as a club that cares for the less privilege in the society.
She commended the , organization for listing eleven thousand persons to be fed in the current exercise.
Meanwhile The Port Harcourt City One Love has planned a permanent solution to the problem of feeding the poor in the state.
The leader of the group Mr Idaere Gogo Ogan who said this in an interview with newsmen during the distribution of food items to the poor and vulnerables in Port Harcourt said the organization is planning a permanent food kitchen where poor and vulnerable persons can work in anytime and get fed.
Idaere Gogo Ogan said more than sixty thousands poor and vulnerable persons across Port Harcourt City and environs have been fed since the inception of “The operation feed the needy” program six years ago,adding that so far sixty thousands poor and vulnerable persons have beneffited.
He described the group as a platform to promote friendship, brotherhood, community development empathy and feeding the less privilege and hungry people
“That’s what we are doing today here,so we started the exercise six years ago”.he said.
Ogan said the effort was a private sector driven initiative but added “it also involves people in Government because the platform does not recognize any division,we bring everybody together in unity , friendship and brotherhood”he said.
He said the effort will go along way in alleviating hunger especially following the prevailing hunger in the country.
According to him “you know the country is very tough, people are hungry people are starving, there is a whole lot of economic hardship,so for us, this is just our own way of reaching out, our own social contribution to what is very difficult”he said.
Over eleven thousand persons were fed in the just concluded exercise.
Areas of coverage include, Isaac Boro park, Port Harcourt prison/Macoba, Borokiri/Enugu waterside Bundu areas Waterlines and others.
Some of the beneficiaries including an 80 years old widow commended the movement for the annual programm and urged other organizations to emulate them
