VC Demands Improved Power Supply For University
The Acting Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumini in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Prof Okechuku Onuchuku has identified poor power supply as one of the key factors affecting the institution and appealed to the state government to assist the university to improved electricity generation in order to enhance learning and provide efficient security in the university especially with regards to Ndele campus .
Onuchuku made this assertion while delivering his convocation address during the 42nd convocation ceremony of the institution held at the university auditorium on Friday in Port Harcourt with the theme” Deeping the university culture” for the awards of first degree certificates to the graduating students of the institution.
The Acting Vice Chancellor listed the construction of Senate lodge,Vc lodge construction of more hostels and lecture halls among others as the urgent needs to the institution , adding that the institution has maintained a robust relationship with its host communities in line with the university’s corporate social responsibility policy .
He stressed that the management took a decision to fence the female hostels and other critical areas across the school as part of the management’s drive to foster efficient security network in the university .
“Management has fenced the female hostels to forestall any incident of rape as recorded in other sister universities in the State, we also built four kitchens, completed English house building, Faculty of Education , Estate Management building, university guest house and security posts among others we have done,” he stated.
