Rivers SWAN Lauds Fubara Over Supreme Court Victory
Following the Supreme Court victory recently by Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, the State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association, (SWAN) has felicitated the Governor.
The association noted that the victory will no doubt boost the morale of the governor and focus on development, peace and unity in the State.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Caretaker Committee Chairman ( CTC) of the association, Cyril Dum Wite and Secretary, Austine Isaac, and made available to Tidesports yesterday.
According to the statement, the governor’s love and subsequent support of all sporting activities since he assumed office have started to yield fruits.
“Your Excellency Sir, your love for sports since you assumed office as Governor of Rivers State, has started yielding fruits,
“First the State female handball team won the League and got promoted, Rivers United is currently in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup and Rivers Hoopers recently won the Nigeria Premier Basketball League and secured the ticket to represent Nigeria at the Basketball African League”
The association uses the forum to appeal to the governor to continually support sports in the State now that the storm is over.
“We hope to see more support for sports from your administration now that the storm is over” he said.

Leeds Edge Birmingham City To advance
Leeds yesterday beat Birmingham in a penalty shootout to squeeze into the FA Cup fifth round for the third time in four years.
Goalkeeper Lucas Perri denied Tommy Doyle before Patrick Roberts, who scored a stunning equaliser in the 89th minute, blazed over.
Up stepped Sean Longstaff to score Leeds’ fourth spot-kick from four and send Daniel Farke’s side into the last 16.
Defeat was tough on Chris Davies’ Birmingham side, who pushed their Premier League opponents all the way before falling to only their third home defeat of the season.
The hosts, whose fans applauded owner Tom Wagner as the American continues his recovery from a stroke, deserve huge credit for their display.
And with their cup dream over for another year the ambitious Blues, who are two points off the Championship play-offs, will turn their attention to ending their 15-year exile from the top flight.
