Groups Charge Delta Governor-Elect On Community Dev
The Isoko Development Union (IDU) and the Urhobo Development Union (UPU) in Delta State, have charged the State’s Governor-elect, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, to place priority on the development of the communities.
The groups gave the charge when the leadership of the unions visited the governor-elect in Asaba, midweek.
The President General of IDU, Prof. Christopher Akpotu, appealed to the Governor-elect to give the Isoko people their place of pride in the governance of the state.
Akpotu, who congratulated the Governor-elect for his victory in the March 18 governorship poll, described the victory as well deserved.
Similarly, the UPU President General, Chief Ese Gam, congratulated the Governor-elect on his victory and charged him to ensure even distribution of the dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of Urhobo land.
Gam urged him to prioritise payment of workers’ salary as well as that of pensioners.
He also charged him to tackle the issue of unemployment through engagement of the unemployed youths in the state.
Responding, Oborevwori, also the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, assured the groups of development across the state.
‘’I am very happy with the visit of the leadership of the UPU coming here today on a congratulatory visit and this is a good thing. We will do our best to bring development to all parts of the state,’’ he said.
The Governor-elect, while commending the groups for their roles in ensuring sustainable peace and development in the state, assured that his administration would be all-inclusive.
He also assured that the government would continue to partner with all ethnic nationalities on developmental projects.
“I want to sincerely thank the people of Isoko nation for the love you have shown me.
“Let there be peace and unity in Isoko nation. I want unity in Isoko nation and other ethnic groups in the state.
“When there is unity, there will be development. We do not want disunity, there should be love and unity in order to attract massive development”, he said.
