Church Has Leading Role To Play In Nigeria’s Diginity -Bishop
The Diocesan Bishop of D/Line, Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt Rev Friday Gwungama Jephthah, has said the church still has a leading role to play in upholding the dignity of the nation, no matter the height of challenge.
Jephthah said this when he paid a courtesy call to King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke, Eze Gbakagbaka as part of its 2023 Synod Engagement at Woji in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, recently.
He said those with different thought about the church’s ability to restore the country to its past glory are bereft of supremacy of God.
Jephthah said since God is still in the business of salvation and doing good, Nigeria’s case would not be different.
To his host and the Evo monarch, he enjoined him to still hold strong unto God, judging his earlier relationship with Him before now.
“You will reign in peace. You know God before now. Do not loose faith”, he said.
The cleric further prayed against any form of conspiracy against the Monarch and his kingdom.
In his response, the Eze Oha Evo III, King of Evo Kingdom, HM Leslie Nyebuchi Eke, reaffirmed that his faith was under no threat.
Eke, who described Synod as a necessary and important Church meeting, urged christians to learn how to grow thick skin against challenges.
“I know that there will be a cog in the wheel of progress. So, we must learn how to push ahead, no matter the odds”, he said.
The Eze Evo also appealed to Church leaders to continue to make the Church a fertile ground where politicians and others could enter and get converted.
The monarch further reiterated that the essence of leadership was not to display power or authority anyhow, but to use such to bring in innovations that have direct bearings on the people.
Meanwhile, he further informed his visitors that his reign covers up to 33 communities and added that they were in good relationship with the government and people of Rivers State.
