Student Emerges Queen Of Mathematics In Bonny …Pockets N1m
A female student of Lucille Education Centre (LEC), Bonny, in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Miss Ivan Jumbo, has emerged Queen of Mathematics of the King/Queen of Mathematics Contest 2022/2023.
The feat, which earned her the grand prize of N1million, saw Jumbo beat Imoni Nathan of Bonny National Grammar School, and Yusuf Khalifa, of Ibitamuno Group of Schools, who emerged first and second runners-up, respectively.
The Tide learnt that the annual contest was organised by the G30 Ibani Voice in conjunction with DavFub Group of Companies, an indigenous firm.
President of the G30 Ibani Voice, Dr Fubara Dan-Jumbo, who spoke at the grand finale, recently, said the competition was a launchpad for global competitiveness for participating students and urged them to have a high target.
Dan-Jumbo, who spoke via the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Bonny Island Hotel, Clinton Dan-Jumbo, stated that the contest was aimed at projecting participating students on the global stage where they can compete favourably given that Mathematics is a global phenomenon.
“First of all, I wish to commend the organizers, the G30 Ibani voice. It’s no small feat, it is not a small thing to conceptualise and design a programme like this.
“It means the person in question has a sense of mission, perspicacity is his watch word, or their watchword because they are a committee driving this process”, he said.
According to him, there was now the need to grow capacity, to help people, and project them to a level where they can compete favourably outside the shores of Bonny.
“That is what this vision is all about. That is why this is important. Someone said education teaches us what to overlook, like the MC has pointed out, education is the bedrock of any society”, he said.
He also advised the students to refuse to be limited by their geographical location and present circumstances.
The President further touched on the need to shun distractions from their immediate environment, as he commended members of the group for a successful event.
The first and second runners-up, Imoni Nathan and Yusuf Khalifa, respectively, also expressed gratitude to the G30 Ibani Voice for according them a platform to exhibit their intellectual prowess in Mathematics.
They urged their fellow students to work hard and listen to their teachers to enable them reach their target.
On his part, the Principal of Lucille Education Centre, Esau Enyinna, who was conferred with the award of best Performing Principal in Bonny Kingdom, applauded Ivan Jumbo and other students from his school for working hard.
