Nigeria’s Democracy Truly Advancing – Council Boss
The Chairman of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State, Dr Bariere Thomas, has declared that democracy in Nigeria is truly living up to its billing.
Speaking in an interview after casting his vote in the Presidential and National Assembly elections last Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Ward 18, Unit 5 in Bean Community, Khana LGA, the council boss described the process as smooth and peaceful, while thanking people of his unit for voting for candidates of their choice.
He explained that the total absence of electoral violence, intimidation, thuggery and sundry tendencies was a clear indication that Nigeria’s democracy was truly advancing.
“ The process is smooth. People are voting for candidates of their choice. There is no molestation, no insecurity. This is to show that our democracy is truly advancing”, Dr Thomas stated.
The council boss commended the people of his unit for their calm and orderliness during the voting process.
Meanwhile, in Ward 12 of Khana LGA, the INEC materials did not arrive early while in Ward 17 the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) disfranchised crowd of voters who patiently waited for accreditation due to malfunctioning of the machine.

APC Unveils New NWC At National Convention
Delegates at the convention, held at the Eagle Square, also produced a new national working committee (NWC) through a consensus arrangement endorsed by stakeholders.
Dr Ben Nwoye was named deputy national chairman (south), replacing Mr Emma Eneukwu, following consultations within the party.
Sources within the party said the decision was influenced by zoning considerations and consultations among party leaders, with Mr Peter Mbah, Enugu State governor, playing a significant role in ensuring Dr Nwoye’s inclusion.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Yilwatda said his re-election was a call to greater service and pledged commitment to unity within the ruling party.
“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and we are ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said.
He added that the new leadership would not “fail or falter” in carrying out its responsibilities.
President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, governors, members of the national assembly, and other party leaders graced the convention.
