VC Warns Matriculants Against Drug Abuse
The Vice-Chancellor of the Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, has warned matriculating students of the institution against the use of drug abuse and bullying.
Ojediran gave the warning during the combined 18th and 7th matriculation ceremonies for undergraduates and postgraduate students of the university, Saturday, in Ota, Ogun State.
The Tide’s source reports that a total of 922 students, comprising of 48 postgraduate students, were matriculated for 2022/2023 academic session.
He noted that the warning had become necessary for the new students as the university has zero tolerance for drug abuse and bullying.
The VC said the management of the institution had approved on-the-spot tests for substance abuse.
“Any student who tested positive would bear the full brunt of the prescribed punishment.
“In addition, the university would not, in any way, compromise on its rules and standards for any student,” he said.
Ojediran reiterated the commitment of the institution to train and make its graduates stand out as positive contributors to the society.
The VC implored the matriculating students to abide by the rules and regulations of the university to succeed in their academic pursuit.
“Staying within the rules and regulations means you are being processed to succeed in the society later in life,” he said.
Ojediran advised the new students to properly manage their time and be able to apportion due shares to their studies and other relevant activities.
He said that the ability to maintain that required balance would go a long way in making the difference between them and others.
The VC appealed to the parents to cooperate with the institution in training and moulding the students in fulfilling their dreams of a university education.
Ojediran said that the institution was licensed as the first private university in 2005 and had witnessed remarkable development and achievements.

Rivers Commissioner Commends WAEC Conduct, Vows Sanctions for Malpractice
The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, has commended the orderly conduct of the ongoing 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination in the state and urged schools to sustain the standard.
Dr. Nwagor gave the commendation on Tuesday during a monitoring tour of selected secondary schools in Port Harcourt and environs where the WAEC exam is ongoing.
The commissioner, who was accompanied by directors and monitors from the Ministry of Education, said he was impressed with the peaceful atmosphere at the centres visited.
“The students conducted themselves properly and wrote their papers under conducive conditions. Invigilators and supervisors also performed their duties professionally,” he stated.

Nwagor noted that the Rivers State Government had invested heavily to ensure the smooth and credible conduct of the examination across the state
He urged candidates to reciprocate government’s effort by shunning all forms of examination malpractice and focusing on their studies.
“Government has done so much to ensure successful examinations in our schools. Students should take advantage of it by remaining focused,” the commissioner said.
While no case of malpractice was recorded in the centres inspected, Dr. Nwagor warned that any principal, teacher, invigilator, or official caught aiding malpractice would face strict sanctions in line with regulations.
He also commended school administrators, teachers, WAEC officials, and security personnel for upholding the integrity of the process.
Centres visited included County Grammar School, Ikwerre/Etche; Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri; Government Secondary School, Borokiri; and Pabod Model Secondary School.
