St. Mary’s Primary School Wins Quiz Competition
St. Mary’s Primary School, Aggrey Road has won the maiden edition of public primary schools quiz competition held at Agbani Derego Hall, in Port Harcourt Township.
The two day competition which ended recently was organized by Old Port Harcourt Neighbourhood Association (OPHNA) popularly known as Port Harcourt Town Geng a non profitable organization.
The event which witnessed huge crowd was attended by people from all works of life including pupils from various primary schools in Port Harcourt township and its environs.
While presenting the trophy to the first position, the acting director of Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Dike Eleberi, advised the pupils to be serious with their studies to enable them become better children in future.
The Director said he was impressed with the performance of the pupils, saying that it was against the perception he had earlier about public schools in recent times.
“ Today I am really impressed with what I saw, initially I thought public schools pupils and students are now empty vessels but with what I witnessed today I am convinced that they are still very intelligent”, Mr. Eleberi said.
Speaking the coordinator of the association, Jennifer Ibimina Princewill, said her purpose to form the association was to bring back the brotherly love, peace and unity among people who have lived and living in Old Port Harcourt township.
According to her, in those days people lived in Port Harcourt township were in living in harmoniously and peacefully.
“I grew up in Port Harcourt township precisely at Capital Amangala Street. I actually enjoyed the way and manner people were living, there was love, care and concern for everybody. Neighbour checking on each other on how they are faring and render help where necessary. So my intention is to bring back that spirit of love”, Princewill said.
She explained that the quiz was also to test the ability of public primary school pupils currently.
“There is this notion that public schools are nothing to talked about but with what I have seen there no need to waste too money in private schools”. She stated.
